If you’re like me, you probably would have come across Something in the Rain because of its cast: Son Ye-jin and Jung Hae-in. Another thing you might have heard is that the show features a romantic love story between two people with a huge age difference. But is the show worth binge-watching? Read more in our review of Something in the Rain.
The simple yet well-written plot, and the remarkable acting in “Something in the Rain” deserves more appreciation and love than it has received. It has a rating of 8.1 on IMDB from just 8000 people and 9.5 on Viki from just 8000 people as well.
What is Something in the Rain About?
Something in the Rain is about a woman named Yoon Jin-ah in her mid-30s, who is struggling in life both from a career perspective and in finding love.
She has had terrible past relationships. At the start of the show, she is going through a breakup after finding out that her boyfriend has been cheating on her.
Jin-ah also rebels against her mother, who wants to arrange a groom for her because she thinks Jin-ah is too old and needs to get married as soon as possible.

The second lead is Seo Joon-Hee, Jin-ah’s best friend’s younger brother. He is a cheerful young fellow, who is much more in control of his life.
The two run into each other at the show’s start, sparking a friendship that quickly turns into a one-sided crush on Joon-Hee’s side.

The story revolves around the two navigating through their relationship and battling the challenges in their lives. It also focuses on them trying to hide their secret and non-conventional relationship.

One thing that’s unique about Something in the Rain is that it is one of the few Kdramas that show a relationship between an older woman and a younger man.
What We Love About Something in the Rain?
In this review, we have compiled a list of things we loved about Something in the Rain. If these reasons seem convincing enough, then we’d recommend you to go ahead and binge-watch this show.

- Relationship struggles as an adult: this show features the opposite of what you’d call teenage or cheesy romance. It shows the struggles of a practical, real-life relationship. The shots, slow-burn romance, and cinematography further add a more realistic touch to this show.
- Family dynamics: the drama portrays the interconnected family dynamics that prevail in collectivist societies like Korea. One of the things that stood out in this drama was how well it focused on the relationship between the main characters, their siblings, and their parents.
- Realities of corporate life: if you have something against the cut-throat corporate life, then this show will relate to your struggles. Other than the romance and melodrama, a good deal of scenes in this drama are set in the office, featuring the main characters’ work life and their daily struggles.
- Sneaky romance: don’t confuse this with secret affairs here 😅. What we mean is that this drama has a different touch that you won’t find elsewhere; several episodes show the main characters hiding their relationship from friends and family, and it’s just too cute!
Concluding Note
If you’re into slow romance, and realistic shows as opposed to fantasy ones, then this Kdrama is for you. Something in the Rain has a lot of unique perspectives to offer, and keeps you hooked.
However, some viewers have stated the second half of the drama is way too slow, and they often kept hitting the forward key after the 8th episode.
The other thing that many viewers complained about is how the relationships in this drama are far from ideal. The main characters often lie and argue amongst themselves, and with their family members. We agree that this can be a nuisance, but to us it seemed a good realistic depiction of things.
We’d recommend you to try out a few episodes and see if the realism is according to your taste. If it seems just right, then that’s great! If not, then you can safely swipe left of on this one.
