What is Little Women About?

Little Women is a Kdrama about 3 sisters struggling with poverty, whose fortunes take a dramatic turn as they somehow end up with a large sum of cash. However, the money doesn’t come for free, and they get entangled in a series of events involving one of the wealthiest families in the nation, ultimately putting their lives at risk.

The eldest sister is Oh In Joo starred by Kim Go-eun (Our familiar actress from show “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (Goblin)” 🙌). In Joo has been living under the guilt of not being able to provide enough for her sisters due to her poor condition. You’ll deeply relate to her role in this show if you’re the eldest sibling.

When one of her closest colleagues is murdered and leaves her a good sum of money, she embarks on a journey to uncover the truth behind her death. However, as she delves deeper into the investigation, she becomes increasingly entangled in the intricate web of drama surrounding a wealthy family.

Is Little Women Kdrama based on the book by Louisa May Alcott?

The Little Women Kdrama is very different from Louisa May Alcott’s book. Before we explain why, here is a little disclaimer that this section contains spoilers, click to read on.

Firstly, the Little Women Kdrama has a story of its own, with a completely new plot and set of characters. Unlike the Little Women Holywood movies, which exactly copy the book’s plot, the Kdrama is very different.

Nevertheless, fans suspect that there are some subtle similarities between the Little Women Kdrama and the book. We have listed them below:

  • There are 4 sisters both in the book and the Kdrama.
  • The third sister passes away in both the book and the Kdrama. However, in the Kdrama the sister has already passed away at the start of the show, whereas in the book, this happens much later.
  • The personalities of the elder and middle sister are somewhat the same in the book and the Kdrama.
  • A male character has a crush on the second sister in both the book and the Kdrama.

However, we feel that these similarities are very subtle and without putting much thought into it, you won’t notice much of a difference.

Why We Love the Kdrama Little Women?

The mystery

The sisters slowly learn about the murder of In Joo’s colleague, and how the villains have been involved in a series of murder cases; all unfolding with the right amount of suspense to keep you hooked.

Not heavy on the Romance

Amongst the action, mystery, and crime-solving, the show has a slight bit of Romance. The show isn’t packed with lovey-dovey scenes but rather portrays a slow natural build-up of emotions between the characters.

Struggles of the middle class

As the sisters struggle through poverty, some of the scenes can be highly relatable to people going through tough financial situations.

Short and sweet

Little Women only has 12 episodes. The show doesn’t feel slow and dragged at all.

White collar crimes

If you’re interested in financial crimes such as tax evasion and money laundering, then you’ll better understand and love this drama.

Concluding Note

Little Women has a very unique story with not a lot of the mainstream Kdrama things you see. The characters have great depth and the suspense is great, where you can hardly predict what would happen next.

However, one of the things we didn’t like is that some action scenes may appear illogical or disconnected from reality, which might not appeal to viewers seeking thrilling action sequences.

Overall, we loved it and Little Women is a good enough to keep you hooked!
